In this, my new color edition (October, 2016) of Double Vision II Living A Poet's Life in Paint, Photo and Word, I offer fresh paintings plus new and revised narrative poems in paint, photo and word, abstract and conventional, of art and making art, of seeing and feeling human nature, of time and place, of real people in shadow and light, broken and bold, doubling down to make life work - a vet wrapped in an army blanket pleading for help on the Supreme Court building steps, a tearful woman walking the Seattle mist begging for travel money to Idaho, a grieving son discovering his father as a man more than his father, a Florida beach jogger finding mermaids sweeping the passageways of Carthage and Rome in crumbling wave washed sand castles, proud Anasazi women holding history in tight fists, Georgia O'Keeffe on her back to paint over and over The DH Lawrence Tree until she gets it right - all of us, carrying hope and determination, following the path of the hungry wolf, hearing the lament of a distant crow, touching the ancient eye of an Oklahoma water oak in search of the mysteries of our own histories. Also available on is my original black and white edition of Double Vision II Narrative Poetry With and Without Words, in and Paperback - Mike Angelotti

Double Vision II Living A Poet Life in Paint Photo and Word eBook Mike Angelotti Reviews

This is a wonderful hidden gem of a poetry book. Many of the poems appear to be slices of the poet's life retold with vivid imagery and a great deal of emotional depth. This is not a quick read or quick shot in the arm of poetry, you will likely find yourself re-reading most of the poems to catch the things you just know you have missed. Many of the poems read more like short stories - I found it quite satisfying. For ten bucks - give it a try - you won't be disappointed.
Very intuitive writing, sharing life's experiences soft and harsh, for any and all to enjoy. I was particularly drawn to "Dirt Roads and Dream Catchers". I have walked many a dirt road barefoot and felt the dirt between my toes and wondered who had walked before me and then who would walk behind me. I enjoyed all his writings but especially this one.
In Mike Angelotti’s Double Vision II, many words, lines, images, and stories are seashells you will be compelled to toss in your bucket and keep with you long after you have read. Angelotti’s poetic contemplations of the past, of nature, of human connection, of life, and of death become “open to the soul of the viewer” who is invited to also contemplate the tender and tough moments the poems capture. In “Seattle, Washington, November 1991,” Angelotti describes a moment of guilt and regret when refusing money to a homeless woman he encounters on the street despite having “ten times twenty dollars in my wallet to cover a gourmet/meal at Palomino’s before the evening ends.” Ten years later, Angelotti has another chance encounter with a homeless woman pleading for money in Chicago. This time, however, Angelotti captures an inspiring and touching moment of redemption. Interrupting her plea, he “places twenty in her palm” and “folds her fingers around it.” As he does in “Seattle, Washington, November 1991,” Angelotti juxtaposes these tough, harsher moments with tender, softer moments throughout Double Vision II. Mike Angelotti is superb in his attention to detail. His poems convey vivid imagery directly and without pretense. A must read. I recommend two copies of Double Vision II. One copy for the underlining, circling, and highlighting you will do without realizing it. The second, a clean copy you will be inspired to share with others again and again.
This exciting volume of poetry may be called "Double Vision" but it emerges with single-eyed telescopic clarity. Each poem, like a pearl on a necklace shines with illuminating insight. Whether he is describing an anthill, a dirt road or an Indian Council meeting, we are sitting at his side witnessing the truth. Whether he is serious or playful, ("Poet's Taxi Stand), we stand at his shoulder eager to enter his world. Different poetic forms keep the reader intrigued, and one can only hope there will be a Double Vision III
In Double Vision II, poet Mike Angelotti's varied and evocative images enable his reader to taste salty air of the waterfront or to fully feel the still life of a stand of pin oak and juniper in the morning fog. To read his poetry is to enjoy a heightened-sense journey to experience with him gains and losses along the way. In "An Uncommon Walk on a Beach Like Any Other" Angelotti's tender look at the scene before him captures the sounds, colors,"human seabirds" hovering over the sand to pick up shells, and "sand castles from last night/soon gone smooth crumbly like/centuries old stoneways Carthage and Rome/crept through damply darkly humbly". In a single scene the present/past/future merge into the smoothness of the wash over the sand to repeat with singular shells for the taking. His art informs his work as he paints with words in sketchbook shades and shapes all he sees around him to delight and, in most instances, instruct. This instruction is as subtle as an invitation to join him in this book, and in our lives, to share his keen awareness of the scenes and senses around us provide. In "A Single Mind in Geometric Multiplication", his reach to his reader is evident "I need to catch this interplay, I think,/poet in nature, nature in poet,/but you rise up and the whole thing is lost,/but no, I word you in from mind,/marveling at the natural composition/incomplete without you,hoping/my brush strokes flow true." The brush strokes do flow true. Amazingly beautiful book to be read again and again and again.
True to his previous compositions, this volume of beautiful poetry is spell binding & filled with imagery. The words do inspire visions of life, love, joys, sorrows.... our life long yearning for meaning in this world, and in the hereafter.Lovely little book. A genuine pleasure.
